COUNTY CLERK ASKS NJ ATTORNEY GENERAL
TO INVESTIGATE COMPANY SELLING DEED COPIES
TOMS RIVER - - Ocean County Clerk Carl W. Block has sent a letter to New Jersey
Attorney General Stuart Rabner requesting his office investigate National Deed Service,
Inc., which has solicited Ocean County homeowners to purchase a certified copy of
their deed for a fee that represents a roughly 550% increase over the cost charged for
the identical service provided by the County Clerk’s Office.
It is my understanding that the Consumer Fraud Act prohibits unconscionable
commercial practices, which would appear to include the inflated pricing of items for
sale, “ Block stated in his letter to Rabner.
