A
Message from Carl W. Block,
Ocean County Clerk
Dear Citizen:
Nearly 25,000 Ocean County residents apply for a United States Passport
from the Ocean County Clerk's Office each year. We are happy to provide
this service as a convenience to the public.
The most attractive benefit of our Passport Service is that it allows
applicants to process their application in person at a convenient
location, rather than traveling to New York/Philadelphia or utilizing
the mail. Applicants must appear in person.
I hope you will find the information contained here useful in obtaining
a United States Passport. Once you receive your Passport guard it as if it
were gold; in some countries it is. A Passport is worth a substantial sum
of money on the "black market".
Without your Passport you could receive unwelcome detainment in some
countries, and mar what would have been a wonderful trip. An adult's
Passport is valid for ten (10) years and five (5) years for those under
sixteen (16).
If you have any questions or require additional information concerning
our Passport service please feel free to contact my office at (732) 929-
2018. Best wishes for many safe and enjoyable trips.
Sincerely,

CARL W. BLOCK
Ocean County Clerk

The following items are essential to obtain a passport:
1. Proof of U.S. Citizenship
(Note: A duplication machine copy of a birth certificate, without an official seal or certification, is not acceptable. A record filed more than one year after birth is acceptable if substantiated by other evidence. If no birth certificate exists, submit a registrar's notice to that effect. Also, submit an early baptismal or circumcision certificate, newspaper/insurance files or notarized affidavits/ persons having knowledge of your birth - preferably with at least one record listed above.)
The County Clerk’s Office also assists Ocean County residents interested in obtaining a
United States Passport Card. The requirements to obtain a U.S. Passport Card are the
same as the requirements to secure a U.S. Passport (see above). The Passport Card is only
valid for land and sea crossings between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the
Caribbean - Not for travel by air to these destinations. The total fee is: $45.00 for adults;
$20.00 of which must be paid by check or money order payable to the U.S. Department of State,
and a $25.00 execution fee that may be paid in cash, credit card or check payable to the
Ocean County Clerk. Children under 16 are charged $10.00, in
addition to a $25.00 execution fee.
