Not everyone is aware that County Government in New Jersey is responsible for County road maintenance, jails, mortgage and deed recording, voting procedures, protection of the rights of minors and lots more.

To promote awareness of the work accomplished throughout New Jersey's 21 Counties, The New Jersey Constitutional Officer's Association is sponsoring an annual poster contest called "My County."

Fourth graders, who generally study the State of New Jersey, are invited to design posters for the contest. There are only a few rules.
  • Each Fourth Grade Class Must select one student's poster as the winner to represent their class in the contest. Only one poster per class can be entered in the contest.

  • The Poster MUST be on standard 22" by 28" white poster board

  • The name of Ocean County MUST be in 4-inch letters formed in black marker at the top of the poster

  • The Student's Name, Teacher's Name and School MUST be printed neatly in the lower right hand corner on the back of the poster

  • Posters must be mailed or delivered to:
    Carl W. Block
    Clerk of Ocean County
    P.O. Box 2191
    Toms River, New Jersey 08754-2191
    Phone: 732-929-2018
    Deadline date: April 4, 2008

Design and content of the poster are at the discretion of the student. Special knowledge or background is not needed. A general guideline here would be to depict that which makes Ocean County unique.

Four top winners will be selected from Ocean County. The winners will receive a plaque and be invited to the Courthouse in Toms River for a photo session with the County Clerk, Sheriff and Surrogate.

All posters become the property of the Constitutional Officer's Association and the County of Ocean. Selected posters will appear on a published calendar. Submission of the posters grants the Constitutional Officer's Association of New Jersey permission to display in public places.
